Student Activities and Sessions

Each year, more than 200 midwifery students attend the ACNM Annual Meeting & Exhibition. Special options make this experience more affordable than you might expect. The regular ACNM Student Member registration fee is just $250, and workshops are discounted by 50% for students. We've got an entire track of education sessions designed especially for you, and a gamut of other offerings listed below.

For the first time ever, students have the opportunity to showcase practice inquiry projects and research at the Annual Meeting as poster presentations. Submit your abstract to the Student Poster Challenge by April 15 - enter code challenge13.

Exam Prep Workshop
May 29: 8 am-4 pm and/or
May 30: 9 am-1:30 pm

We're listening - we've added a half day of case studies to our full day of review to help you prepare and build your confidence for the American Midwifery Certification Board certification exam. Sign up for one day or both when you register for the meeting.

Student Issues Section Liaison Meeting
May 29: 4 pm-7 pm
June 1: 3 pm-4 pm

The SIS Student Liaison meetings are an opportunity for a student liaison from each midwifery education program to meet with co-chairs of the Student Issues Section, Heather Clarke and Kim Dau. At these meetings the liaisons will collaboratively write the Annual Student Report to the ACNM. SIS Liaison Meetings are invitation-only events.

Midwifery Business Network Reception
May 29: 7 pm-9 pm

Rub elbows with movers and shakers who know the ins and outs of the business aspects of midwifery practice. Make contacts, share information, problem solve, and see what's in store for Midwifery Works! 2013, ACNM's fresh new take on the annual Midwifery Business Network fall conference.

Student Lounge
The student lounge will be open the following days and times in Room 107 in the Nashville Convention Center:

First Timer's Orientation
May 30: 7 pm-8 pm

Never been to an ACNM Annual Meeting before? You'll learn everything you need to know for a gentle introduction to the premier opportunity for midwives in America to polish professional and clinical skills, share knowledge and experiences, and celebrate the work that midwives are doing to advance maternity and women's health care.

Midwives of Color Reception
May 30: 8 pm-10:30 pm
Tickets $45, Student Tickets $15

Join your colleagues and friends for a festive evening of fun, food, dancing, and networking. Share experiences, interests, issues, and even a few surprises! All midwives and students are welcome. This event includes a live auction with proceeds going toward the Midwives of Color Watson Basic Midwifery Student Scholarship.

Student Lunch with ACNM Board and Staff
Sponsored by the American Midwifery Certification Board
May 31: 11:30 am-1:30 pm

Meet the ACNM Board of Directors and members from the National Office staff for lunch. The A.C.N.M. Foundation will present student awards and scholarships at this event, including the 20th Century Midwife award, the Edith Wonnell scholarship, the Midwives of Color-Watson scholarship, and the Varney Participant award as well as the Foundation's Midwifery Education scholarships.

Midwives-PAC Rally
June 1: 4 pm-6 pm

The Midwives-PAC (Political Action Committee) plays an important tole in advancing ACNM's legislative agenda through campaign contributions to federal legislators. Come learn how to get involved - and get ready for some fun, because this zero overhead event will showcase a silent and live auction as well as a mystery bourbon/wine pull.

Midwifery Awards Dinner and Celebration Party
7 pm-12 MIDNIGHT

Come be inspired by the stars of our profession, then hit the dance floor with them! $10 reserves your seat and a plated dinner at the semi-formal awards ceremony - space is not guaranteed without a reservation. Then the doors open to everyone for the free midwifery celebration after-party at 9! These events are always huge favorites with Annual Meeting attendees - everyone who's anyone will be there, so don't miss your chance to cut loose!
