Bylaws Committee
Purpose
To advise the ACNM Board of Directors, affiliates, committees, and others as directed by ACNM leadership regarding proposed bylaws changes. Ensure proper application of ACNM Bylaws change policies and procedures.

Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging Committee (DEIB)
Purpose
To establish and coordinate the functioning of Bias Incident Transparency and Healing (BIRTH) Team, an on-call D&I volunteer team offering rapid response to bias incidents in real time during ACNM Annual Meetings. Assist ACNM in developed policy pertaining to D&I issues. Facilitate communication [shared language], data collection, and analysis concerning D&I issues within ACNM.

Ethics Committee
Purpose: To promote and facilitate the efforts of ACNM to be responsive to the ethical dimensions of the midwifery profession.
Responsibilities
- Initiate and revise official ACNM ethical statements and documents and planning for their implementation and evaluation.
- Promote educational opportunities for midwives, student midwives and staff at the National Office to increase their knowledge of ethics and its application to their professional role functions: clinical practice, education, administration of a service including business aspects, research, and policy development and advocacy.
- Establish the mechanism for responding to requests for consultation on ongoing ethical issues or dilemmas pertaining to midwifery.
- Establish the mechanism for responding to requests from ACNM Board of Directors, members, chairs of divisions, committees, commissions and staff concerning ethical statements and issues.
- Promote leadership and participation by midwives in interdisciplinary ethical discourse.
- Establish task forces within ACNM or with other professional and societal organizations to consider specific ethical issues that pertain to midwifery and sexual and reproductive health.

Government Affairs Committee
Purpose
The Government Affairs Committee serves as the voice of certified nurse-midwives (CNMs)and certified midwives (CMs) on Capitol Hill, and state legislatures advocating for policies that support midwifery practice, eliminate health disparities, and improve access to quality, evidence-based midwifery care.
Responsibilities
- Engage in legislative advocacy by meeting with lawmakers, federal and state agencies, and stakeholders to promote midwifery-led care and influence healthcare policy.
- Work to eliminate professional barriers, secure funding for midwifery education, and support legislation related to midwifery education and practice and access to midwifery care.
- Educate midwives, students, and supporters about the political process and encourage grassroots advocacy to strengthen the profession’s influence

Affiliate Development and Support Committee
Purpose of committee
To provide technical support and expertise to ACNM to strengthen and nurture State and other official Affiliates. To directly (with staff liaison) provide ACNM Affiliate leaders with the support and resources needed to create and manage dynamic and thriving Affiliates.

Leadership Development Committee
Purpose
To support the formation and development of positive, innovative, and effective leadership across the membership of ACNM and the profession of midwifery through curriculum, instruction, and support of leadership development activities in ACNM.
Duties and Responsibilities
- define and standardize leadership roles in midwifery
- identify the knowledge, skills, and traits of positive, effective midwifery leaders
- define leadership competencies for midwives
- provide opportunities for midwives’ leadership development through formation of curriculum, workshops, and events in the College
- collaborate with other committees in supporting leadership development activities related to each committee’s respective purpose and tasks
- advise the ACNM national office in leadership development activities, including quality assurance and implementation consistent with the leadership development framework and competencies
- disseminate products of leadership development activities of the committee
Activities 2025-2026
- finalize and publish leadership framework
- conduct annual meeting workshops (synchronous) (4 or 8 hr)
- participate in ACNM speaker’s bureau (leadership expertise in and outside of committee) with standard slides
- create and maintain a resource list of books, learning resources, and conferences on leadership to share with the membership

Commitment: We meet for 1 hour at the end of the workday (4 PST/ 7 EST), plus 1-2 hours of individual work/month.

Purpose: To create relevant content for the purpose of community awareness and education regarding the midwifery model of care and its role in the provision of reproductive health care to people from adolescence to menopause.

Global Engagement Committee
Purpose
We work to expand the interest and expertise of ACNM members and to support global health engagement through exchange of information and increasing midwives’ general knowledge about midwifery around the world.
Responsibilities
- Networking – Create opportunities and structures to connect midwives engaged in global health and global midwifery. Share opportunities for midwifery engagement in global health/ global midwifery.
- Education – Promote the global exchange of information about global health and global midwifery through workshops, continuing education, and presentations through a variety of formats. Maintain effective and up-to-date communication to help engage, educate, and connect ACNM members interested in global midwifery
- Fundraising – host events to fundraise for the Pedersen award to support international midwives to attend the ACNM Annual Meeting semi-annually.
- Engagement – Develop a strategy to ensure ACNM has a voice and presence at all global events related to midwifery and sexual and reproductive health

Purpose

Political Action Committee
Purpose
- Provides financial support of ACNM’s federal advocacy and legislative agenda
- Conducts fundraising activities within ACNM; oversees distribution of PAC funds to federal legislative campaigns
- Educates members about the political process; coordinates activities within the DAAS, and with the ACNM federal lobbyists and the ACNM Director of Government Affairs

Purpose
To plan, coordinate, and evaluate the educational content of the ACNM Annual Meeting. Conduct the Annual Business Meeting, which involves the collaborative efforts of the Board, ACNM staff, contracted meeting partners, committee members, and vendors.

Research & Standards Committee
Purpose & Responsibilities:
- Write, update, and disseminate evidence-based position statements and clinical bulletins
- Support and promote our community of researchers and scholars through active engagement (e.g. hosting networking events, seminars, mentoring, annual meeting dissemination of research)
- Identify and promote research that addresses current needs for the profession and the populations served by ACNM.
