Midwives Teaching Nurses Caucus
The Midwives Teaching Nurses Caucus is for midwives interested in teaching undergraduate and post bachelor’s accelerated program nursing students. Many midwives have found rewarding careers teaching in registered nurse programs. Midwives teaching these future nurses have a unique opportunity of giving information to students about maternal-newborn nursing opportunities, including the midwifery model of maternity care in the United States. These midwives inspire enthusiastic nursing students about a career in midwifery and that is one very important way to grow the midwifery profession. Remember that midwives may be at 8% of all United States births, but nurses are at nearly 100% of US births and they definitely have an impact on the experience for patients and their families!
education was seen as a very important professional role for midwives in the
early years of our profession. In recent years, midwives who teach
undergraduate and post bachelor’s accelerated program nurses have been less visible
in the American College of Nurse-Midwives. The Midwives Teaching Nurses Caucus
strives to rectify that through several resources available to you. We have an ACNM Connect Community. To join our ongoing online discussions, login
here: http://connect.midwife.org/ and search for the Midwives Teaching Nurses community. We have provided presentations
at the ACNM Annual Meeting for the past several years and there is an
opportunity to meet at the ACNM Annual Meeting to
network with each other regarding best practices/best textbooks and other
resources for midwives who teach in registered nurse programs. If you are
already teaching nurses or are interested in promoting the midwifery model of
care to nurses, please feel welcome to join us!
