The main goal of the Committee for the Advancement of Midwifery Practice (CAMP) is to strengthen the profession of midwifery in the United States. Our work takes many different forms, from helping to create boards of midwifery to helping draft -- and pass! -- legislation on the state level supporting certified midwives (CMs). In the long run, we hope to support midwifery as a distinct profession, to make the profession more accessible to people of diverse backgrounds, and to encourage more individuals to become credentialed as CNMs and CMs throughout the U.S.
Serving as one of CAMP's student members is a great way to get plugged in to the community, and it's a terrific way to learn about and become involved with the issues that will affect us once we graduate. It wouldn't be an overwhelming commitment. We currently have a future CM serving as one of our student members. We would love to have a future CNM with us as well.
Please contact CAMP Chair Karen Jefferson, LM, CM, if you are interested. We hope to hear from you soon!
