ACNM is pleased to announce our inaugural Students LEAD (Learn, Engage, Ascend, Deliver) Leadership Development Program. This program empowers midwifery students to enhance their potential and maximize their performance in developing authentic leadership skills, designing a vision to support their academic and professional goals, improving communication and relationship skills, and setting goals towards contributing to the betterment of themselves and their schools, communities, and professional organization. As a participant, you will be introduced to leadership skills and practice applying them through interactive learning activities.

Program Topics to Include:
  • Self-awareness and confidence
  • Visionary leadership
  • Conflict management and civil discourse
  • Dimensions of diversity and cultural competency
  • Emotional intelligence
  • Life balance and using time effectively
  • Ethics and trust

Eligibility Requirements

  • Current member of ACNM
  • Enrolled as a full-time or part-time student in an accredited midwifery program
All eligible students are encouraged to apply, especially those who have not traditionally seen themselves represented among the leaders in ACNM.

Application Requirements
Applicants must submit a one-page letter of recommendation from an ACNM member or your Midwifery Program Director, your resume/CV, and 500-word, one-page summary discussing at least three of the topics listed below. Previous leadership experience is not required to attend this program; however, potential for leadership advancement will be strongly considered and should be addressed in your summary.

  • Leading a team or project to achieve a common goal
  • Effective communication
  • A positive role model
  • Leadership in organizations (inside or outside the profession)
  • Building professional relationships
