  • Participants will be able to explain why knowledge of quality improvement efforts are essential for midwifery leaders.
  • Participants will be able to list at least three types of national quality improvement efforts that impact the midwifery profession.
  • Participants will be able to appreciate the value of midwifery specific data to advance the practice of midwifery.
  • Participants will become comfortable as novice users with the following tools:
    Fishbone Diagram, Process Map, 5 “Whys”, PDSA (Plan, Do, Study, Act), driver diagram

  • Participants will be introduced to the Division of Equity and Inclusion at the University of New Mexico and learn examples of goals and resources offered by such units.
  • Participants will become familiar with organizational theory and educational research examining the strengths of diversity and how to build an inclusive work environment.
  • Participants will learn ways to close opportunity gaps for staff who are critical to achieving their organization’s mission.
