ACNM releases updated Standards for the Practice of Midwifery
An updated version of the ACNM Standards for the Practice of Midwifery has been released after the Board of Directors
voted to change Standard IV of the document at their September meeting. The change removes bullet four-practices in accord with service/practice guidelines that meet the requirements of the particular institution or practice setting-from the document.
Bullets two and three of Standard IV require that CNMs/CMs practice in conjunction with ACNM Core Competencies for Basic Midwifery Practice
and ACNM Standards for the Practice of Midwifery. Bullet four was removed due to the potential conflict that could arise if institutions or settings have guidelines or requirements directly at odds with ACNM Standards or Core Competencies.
