Graduate Nursing Education Demonstration Project

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) has announced a funding opportunity that recognizes the importance of APRNs as a solution to the shortage of primary care providers. The Graduate Nursing Education (GNE) Demonstration Project offers $200 million for a 4-year project to cover the costs of clinical education for APRNs.  Unlike the traditional hospital-based Graduate Medical Education (GME) funds that CMS is known for, 50% of the funding awarded for this project must go through hospitals and their affiliated schools of nursing to community-based health centers, where many primary care APRNs receive their clinical education. A real benefit of this project is that funding may be used to directly pay clinicians as preceptors. Learn more
