Staff Information
Tina Johnson CNM, MS
Professional Practice & Health Policy
Tina found her career in midwifery following the births of her first three children with a wonderful nurse-midwife in rural southwest Virginia. After driving 150 miles roundtrip for each prenatal visit and delivery, Tina was convinced that access to midwifery care needed to be available in every community. She went on to deliver her fourth child at home, and completed her master's degree in nurse-midwifery from Stony Brook University in 1999. She also holds a bachelor's degree in psychology from Virginia Tech, and a nursing diploma from Bronson Methodist Hospital School of Nursing in Kalamazoo, Michigan. Tina has practiced full-scope midwifery care in home, birth center, and hospital settings. She was the first Director of Midwifery Services at Maryland General Hospital in Baltimore, where she was instrumental in establishing a midwifery model of care, training nursing and midwifery students and family practice residents. She is active in the Maryland chapter of ACNM, and has volunteered as legislative liaison and chapter chairperson. She and her husband Peter have seven children and love to travel.
