Wonderful birth experience

I didn't have a crazy birth experience. Instead, I had an experience that I loved and that was calm and safe. My midwife was kind and compassionate throughout my prenatal visits. She offered advice and soothed my fears. When I went into labor, I really thought I was having Braxton-Hicks contractions. But then my husband and I realized that I hadn't felt the baby move in several hours. We called my midwife who had me drink 8 oz of cold juice and lay on my left side. After 15 min I still hadn't felt anything. So I called her back and she advised me to come to the hospital to have the baby checked. When we got to the hospital, my contractions began to become more regular and intense. After about an hour of fetal monitoring (in labor triage), my midwife had me admitted to the hospital. It was only 9 hours later that I had my healthy baby girl. My midwife was fantastic. She was a constant presence in my room during labor (even though my husband was acting as birth coach). When it was time to begin pushing, she was so calm and confident. And thanks to her careful care and assistance, I didn't even tear! Unlike my friends who only see their OB/GYN physician for one 6-week follow up appointment, my midwife saw me at 2-weeks and 6-weeks (and will again at 12-weeks)--checking for postpartum depression as well as my general and female well-being. No doubt about it, using a midwife as my healthcare provider was the best choice for me and my daughter!
