My moment of truth
At 17 I gave birth to twin girls, after a pregnancy that left me feeling powerless, uninformed, cheated, and treated as if I had no choices. With my 2nd pregnancy I sought out something different, something that would make me feel empowered, involved, respected. That experience came with the introduction of a nurse-midwife into the birth team. She educated me about my 1st pregnancy, encouraged me to read books about birth, allowed me to help with her childbirth education classes, and helped me to have the birth experience I so wanted. I decided at that moment, that more women needed access to nurse-midwives! I enrolled in nursing school and began my 16 year journey to becoming a nurse-midwife. For the last 15 years I have provided compassionate, respectful care to women, attending over 3000 births.
