My Moment of Truth - when I switched to a midwife

I had been seeing the same OB/GYN for over 15 years old. Granted, I moved away for a few years, but when I returned I started seeing him again. Every visit, he was ask "So I see you had a laproscopy at 19, what was that for again?". He did the procedure.... Every visit I felt like he had no idea who I was, yet I continued to see him for annual check-ups. When I became pregnant, I went to him for a few visits. I knew that he was not a good match for the care I wanted. I knew if I stayed with him, I would not know the Dr. who delivered me and more than likely I would be induced (based on my family and friends experiences). I made an appointment to see a Midwife Group when I was 16 weeks pregnant. I could not believe how nice they were, how much time they spent, how they actually cared about me and my thoughts/views. I ended up with a C-section on my first birth, after 36 hours of labor. However, I know they gave me ample time and the decision was mine to make. Had I been with the OB/GYN I am sure my son would have a different birth date. I was lucky enough to have a VBAC with my second child. That is something I am very, very proud of being able to do. I wanted to vaginally deliver my child. I know that I would not have had that option with an OB/GYN. They believed in me and helped me make it possible. I am forever grateful to the midwife group that I saw. They are amazing women and I am so thankful I made the switch.
