Occasionally ACNM staff hear about fellowships, scholarships, and other educational opportunities for midwives.
NCHS/AcademyHealth Health Policy Fellowship
The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and Prevention's National Center for Health Statistics (NCHS) and AcademyHealth are seeking applications for their 2009 Health Policy Fellowship. The aim of the fellowship is to foster collaboration between NCHS staff and visiting scholars. The fellowship allows scholars to conduct new and innovative analyses and participate in developmental and health policy activities related to the design and content of future NCHS surveys and offers access to the data resources provided by the CDC.
Applicants may be at any stage in their careers—from doctoral students to senior investigators. Doctoral students must have completed course work and be at the dissertation phase of their program. They must also demonstrate training and/or experience in health services research and methodology, reflecting disciplines such as: Public Health, Public Administration, Economics, Sociology, Health Care Administration, or Behavioral Sciences.
Dr. Stanley C. Marinoff Vulvodynia Career Development Award
The Dr. Stanley C. Marinoff Career Development Award was established by the National Vulvodynia Association (NVA) to encourage medical professionals to pursue their clinical and/or academic interest in vulvodynia. The award provides seed money for one of the following: (i) medical research (ii) establishment or enhancement of a vulvar pain clinic, or (iii) writing a publication on vulvodynia. The NVA’s intent is to encourage the development of medical professionals in this field and enable them to pursue further clinical or academic opportunities.
The award, which is $7,500.00, is open to all medical and allied health care professionals. The applicant’s academic or clinical institution is encouraged to contribute at least a matching amount.
Please submit a brief letter of intent by Friday, October 17, 2008 to Christin Veasley at chris@nva.org. After receipt of the applicant’s letter of intent, NVA will mail him/her guidelines for submitting a full proposal. The final application is due on Friday, November 21, 2008. The award recipient will be announced by February 2009.
