State Loan Repayment Program

What is the State Loan Repayment Program?

The State Loan Repayment Program (SLRP) is part of the overall strategy of the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) to improve access to underserved communities. Loan repayment awards made through this program are funded with a combination of Federal, State, and community funds. Since the program's inception, 38 States have participated, awarding over 1500 loan repayment awards to primary care health professionals.

How Does It Work?

The Federal Government provides up to 50 percent of the funds to make loan repayment awards to primary care health professionals. The remaining 50 percent of the loan repayment award comes from State and/or community resources.

Who Is Eligible?

Primary care health professionals who are providing full-time clinical services in a public or non-profit facility located in a federally designated Health Professional Shortage Area. Eligibility requirements and benefits vary from State-to-State.
