The ACNM Government Relations department has created a resource packet to help members educate legislators, insurance companies, and other stakeholders about midwifery. The documents contained within the packet address the differences between midwifery credentials, the educational preparation of CNMs/CMs, and scope of practice. Members should select the documents that best meet their individual needs to offer stakeholders an adequate introduction to who midwives are and what midwives do.
The specific documents included in the packet include:
? Definition of Midwifery and Scope of Practice of Certified Nurse-Midwives and Certified Midwives
? Joint Statement of Practice Relations between Obstetrician-Gynecologists and Certified Nurse-Midwives and Certified Midwives
? Standards for the Practice for Midwifery
? CNM-CM-CPM Comparison Chart
? Midwifery Certification in the United States
? Midwifery: Evidence-Based Practice, a Summary of Research on Midwifery Practice in the United States
? Essential Facts about Midwives
? CNM/CM-Attended Birth Statistics
