Find a Midwife Service

The information accessible through the “Find a Midwife” service is provided by the American College of Nurse-Midwives (ACNM), and is intended for use by the general public to allow them quick access to information on midwifery professionals and practices.

The information accessible through this service is provided to the ACNM by the individual practices, and the ACNM does not verify this information and cannot guarantee the accuracy, completeness, or timeliness of the information. While the ACNM takes reasonable efforts to keep this informational database up-to-date, the ACNM assumes no responsibility for its accuracy or for any errors or omissions which might be contained in this database.

Practices contained within this database may make certain claims of specialty, experience or competence within their listing. All such claims have been supplied by the midwife or midwifery practices themselves and have not been investigated or confirmed by the ACNM. The ACNM is therefore unable to verify whether any such claims are either accurate or permitted under relevant law, and thus accepts no responsibility whatsoever resulting from any errors or omissions in this information, or from any decision made or action taken based on this information. Web Site Advertising

  • The appearance of advertising on the ACNM Web sites is neither a guarantee nor an endorsement by the ACNM of the product, service, or company or the claims made for the product in such advertising. The fact that an advertisement for a product, service, or company has appeared on the ACNM Web sites shall not be referred to in collateral advertising.
    • As a matter of policy, the ACNM will sell advertising space on its Websites when the inclusion of advertising does not interfere with the mission or objectives of the ACNM or its publications.
    • Placement of advertising adjacent to (i.e., next to or within) editorial content on the same topic is prohibited (for the table of contents, a banner advertisement must not appear next to the title of a related article). Just as a print advertisement should not be placed next to an editorial page on the same topic, a digital advertisement should not be adjacent to editorial content on the same topic, either by linking or appearing adjacent in the content section of the same screen. Similarly, just as a print reader can choose to read an advertisement or skip over it, a computer user should have the option to click or not click on an advertisement. Viewers will not be sent to a commercial site unless they choose to do so by clicking on an advertisement.
  • The ACNM, in its sole discretion, retains the right to decline any submitted advertisement or to discontinue posting of any advertisement previously accepted.
  • Digital advertisements must be readily distinguishable from editorial content. If the distinction is unclear, the word “advertisement” should be added.
  • Advertisements and promotional icons may not appear on the home page of the ACNM Web site ( except at the express discretion of the ACNM.
  • ACNM, JMWH, and Quickening logos may not appear on commercial Web sites as a logo or in any other form without prior written approval by the individuals responsible for the respective areas within ACNM.
  • The ACNM will not link to Web sites that frame the ACNM Web site content without express permission of the ACNM; prevent the viewer from returning to the ACNM Web site or other previously viewed screens, such as by disabling the viewer’s "back" button; or redirect the viewer to a Web site the viewer did not intend to visit.
  • The ACNM reserves the right to not link to or to remove links to other Web sites.


Privacy Statement for ACNM’s Web sites

The American College of Nurse-Midwives (ACNM) created this Privacy Statement to demonstrate our commitment to the privacy of our member and non-member users. This Privacy Statement discloses the privacy practices for,,,,, and other top-level domains.


Information Collection and Use

Collection, retention, and use of personal information may occur if member and non-member users interact with ACNM’s Web site, by either registering with the site or participating in one of ACNM's services. Member users may be required to provide their name, address, telephone number, e-mail address, ACNM member identification number, and/or other identifying information. This information is used to verify status with the ACNM membership database and to respond to inquiries and/or requests. Non-member users may be required to provide an e-mail address, in order for ACNM to respond to inquiries and/or requests.

ACNM may use e-mail addresses provided by member users to notify them of upcoming events from ACNM as well as Regional or Chapter news and events. Member users who do not wish to receive such e-mails should notify ACNM’s Member Services Department of their express request, via e-mail to [email protected] or by mail to ACNM Member Services, 8403 Colesville Road, Suite 1550, Silver Spring, MD 20910. Member users are able to opt-out or change their preferences for receiving such information at any time.


Use of Cookies and IP Address

Cookies are small pieces of information stored by your browser on your computer, which are used to aid in Web navigation. ACNM’s Web site uses session cookies. When member users log onto portions of ACNM’s Web site, an identifier is temporarily created and placed in their computer’s memory so the member user can access the members-only pages using their member number and password. The cookie contains no personal information and is self-terminated upon exiting the browser.

A unique number called an IP address identifies each computer on the Internet. Each time users connect to the Internet, their computer is assigned an IP address. When member and non-member users connect to ACNM's Web site, the IP address is stored for statistical purposes.

ACNM Rights and Obligations

ACNM reserves the right (but is not obligated) to monitor, edit and/or delete communications or documents posted on the ACNM site, and/or disclose any such communication or document to any person or entity, including local, state or federal law enforcement authorities, in accordance with the ACNM Privacy Policy.

eMidwife Discussion Groups

If you elect to participate in an eMidwife discussion group, you are responsible for your communications, the consequences of posting those communications, and your reliance on any communications posted in an eMidwife discussion group. ACNM is not responsible for the consequences of any communications in an eMidwife discussion group. In cases where you feel threatened or offended by a communication posted in an eMidwife discussion group, you may contact ACNM directly by sending an e-mail to [email protected]

As a registered ACNM Web site user or an ACNM member, you hereby agree that the following actions while participating in an eMidwife discussion group shall constitute a material breach of these Terms and Conditions:

  • Using an eMidwife discussion group for any purpose in violation of local, state, national or international regulations or laws;
  • Posting materials that infringe on the intellectual property rights of others or on privacy or publicity rights of others, including individuals in a patient relationship with you or a medical institution with whom you are associated;
  • Posting materials that are unlawful, obscene, defamatory, threatening, harassing, abusive, slanderous, hateful, embarrassing or offensive to any other person or entity as determined by ACNM it is sole discretion;
  • Posting advertisements or solicitations of business;
  • Impersonating another person, living or dead, or misrepresenting your medical training and knowledge;
  • Allowing any other person or entity to use your password to enter a eMidwife discussion group and to post or view comments; or
  • Engaging in any other conduct that restricts or inhibits any other person from using or enjoying the eMidwife discussion group or ACNM site, or which in the sole judgment of ACNM exposes ACNM or any of its users or members to any liability or detriment of any type.

The permission to reproduce ACNM material must be sought well before the expected publication date of your document. The written requests should contain the following information:

  1. Precise citation of the sought document or selection
  2. Title and publisher of your publication
  3. Means by which your publication will be distributed (i.e., included in a book, as a part of your patient education packet, handouts to students, on a CD, or your intranet, etc.)

Permissions are typically granted to reproduce selections of current ACNM materials based on the following conditions:
