Pennsylvania Midwives are Granted Prescriptive Authority

  • Timeline for Pennsylvania CNM prescription-writing privileges to begin in
    2008:
HB 1255 was signed by the Governor on July 20, 2007 as Act 50 of the Laws of 2007.  The new law will take effect on September 18, 2007.  At that point, the Pennsylvania State Board of Medicine (BOM) has up to twelve months from the effective date to finalize regulations to implement the law.  Once those rules have been formally adopted by the BOM, CNMs may begin writing prescriptions according to those specifications.

2nd row - Vivian Lowenstein, CNM (in pink jacket), Rosemarie Greco, Director of
the Office of Health Care Reform, and others at bill signing ceremony July 20, 2007.
