The Midwives Teaching Midwives Caucus is a venue for midwifery educators to meet together, share information, learn from each other and participate in problem solving and professional growth.
Following the 2012 ACNM Annual Meeting, we conducted an online survey of midwifery educators with contacts that were obtained via outreach to Program Directors for faculty member emails. Our survey assessed faculty desire for a more formal group structure for midwifery educators and found significant interest among the members surveyed. A well-attended inaugural meeting of midwives involved in midwifery education was held at the 2013 ACNM Annual Meeting. Attendees at that meeting expressed a clear interest in, and desire for, a more formal structure as well as educational workshop opportunities for midwifery educators. Based on the results of the survey and the meeting, with Board of Director?s approval, the Midwives Teaching Midwives Caucus was formed.
As a first step, we have created an ACNM a Connect discussion group for midwifery educators. Members who are interested can sign up for the Midwives Teaching Midwives community on the ACNM website. (Join the discussion.)
We are also moving forward with plans to formalize our Caucus as well as offer educational workshops for midwifery educators at future ACNM Annual Meetings.
We excitedly welcome educators of midwifery students to join us in this venture. There is so much good work we can do together!
