Course Overview: OVERVIEW – In developing countries, the preponderance of maternal deaths are due to direct causes: hemorrhage, sepsis, unsafe abortion, pregnancy induced hypertension and obstructed labor. Most of these deaths are preventable through quality maternity care, improved nutrition, family planning, access to post-abortion care, available transportation and communication, rapid and safe blood services, improved education for women and girls, and the improved status of women within the culture. LSS training to address these problems has been introduced in over 30 countries throughout the world.
The LSS Workshop for Facilitators will orient participants to the uses of the LSS materials, exploring the details and reasons for evidenced based training content and the teaching methodologies used. Topics featured include:
• Overview of ACNM's Department of Global Outreach and it’s international programs
• Cultural sensitivity as it relates to training content
• Adult learning, competency based and participatory approaches used in LSS training
• Systems approach to setting up a LSS program: assessment, planning, implementation, evaluation
• Hands-on experiences preparing and teaching selected LSS topics.
We have room for only 16 participants in each workshop. Workshop will be canceled if less then 10 participants register by March 31, 2010. REGISTER SOON.
