Immunization Resources for Providers

Immunization against Pertussis (whooping cough), COVID-19, and flu is an essential component of quality prenatal care.

ACNM recommends that all midwives speak to pregnant people about accessing these vaccines during pregnancy. The following resources will assist you in having these conversations with pregnant people.

NEW recommendation:
RSV vaccine in pregnancy. See the joint statement from the Maternal Immunization Task Force:
Obstetric Care Professionals Recommend RSV Vaccine for Pregnant Individuals

ACNM supports the CDC's Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices’s recommendation to offer the RSV vaccine to all pregnant people during 32 through 36 weeks of gestation using seasonal administration. Evidence has demonstrated that administering the RSV vaccine to the gestational parent or carrier is an effective way to protect newborns from RSV after birth. RSV is the leading cause of hospitalization of infants in the US and as midwives, we strive to encourage wellness and good health. The RSV is one of four immunizations that ACNM recommends during pregnancy.

Tdap, COVID, and Flu Campaign

ACNM is excited to share a new maternal immunization campaign developed in 2022, encouraging pregnant people to get three essential vaccines: Tdap, COVID and flu using neuroscience to optimize marketing effectiveness.

In a world where misinformation is commonplace and where deliberate disinformation campaigns are on the rise, it can be very difficult for people to discern a true threat from important information for their health and well-being. This new campaign uses effective messaging for help empower people to make informed decisions regarding their health.
