ICM Policy and Advocacy Officer (ICM Head Quarter)

The key purpose of this post is to be responsible for providing advice, analysis and support to a range of ICM activities, strategies, publications, products and policies in the area of policy, campaigning and advocacy.

The post holder will be primarily responsible for developing  and implementing ICM"s global policy and advocacy strategies in relation to Sexual, Reproductive, Maternal, Newborn and Health (SRMNH) and Post 2015 Sustainable Development Goal's (SDG's) or agenda. In collaboration with the Chief Executive, she/he will identify opportunities, and utilize evidence to help design, inform and deliver ICM's global policies and advocacy strategies. She/he will also build and maintain relationships with key decision makers and influencers, and support the development and delivery of campaigns to address key issues in relation to SRMNH, Post 2015 agenda.

 

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

 

The Policy and Advocacy Officer will undertake/fulfil the following responsibilities:

 

1.        Key Areas of Responsibility

 

Policy

1.1         Monitor, analyse and evaluate global policy documents in SRMNH

1.2         To coordinate and produce ICM responses to consultations and maintain and update an ICM consultations database

1.3         Gather evidence and produce policy documents and presentations, including policy memos, briefs, and other policy and informational documents for both internal and external purposes;

1.4         To create and develop strong relationships with key actors, stakeholders, and partners to maximise impact and resources in furthering SRMNH and post 2015 agenda;

1.5         Undertake background research, provide information and analytical support to policy-related work being undertaken by ICM staff as required

 

 Advocacy

1.6         Lead the development and implementation of an overarching advocacy strategy for ICM.

1.7         Develop and implement advocacy strategies and corresponding activities to advance specific policy change in support of SRMNH;

1.8         Advise on the engagement of advocacy by various ICM projects and conduct periodic reviews of the effectiveness of selected strategies and activities;

1.9         Develop proposals and mobilise resources in support of expanded policy and advocacy initiatives;

1.10       Facilitate capacity building in policy/advocacy among ICM member associations;

1.11       Provide training on advocacy strategy development for ICM staff, including advocacy messaging, communications, and related activities;

1.12       Contribute to the development of advocacy capacity-strengthening tools, curricula and training for ICM staff and partners;

1.13       In collaboration with the technical team, help strengthen technical capacity of local ICM Member Associations to better support program implementers and decision makers to mobilise advocacy agendas;

1.14       Contribute to the development and dissemination of advocacy lessons learned;

1.15       In collaboration with communications team, produce materials for advocacy, communications and media purposes on ICM priorities through desk based research, including drafting or inputting into reports, briefing papers, submissions to consultations and web content;

1.16       Work closely with relevant partner organisations to develop coordinated advocacy and public campaigns on ICM priority themes and countries.

 

ICM is the voice of midwives globally representing its 119 member associations in more than 100 countries. ICM works through these midwives associations to enhance the reproductive health of women, their newborn and families.
