Division of Advocacy and Affiliate Support


The purpose of the Division of Advocacy and Affiliate Support is to facilitate a legislative and public policy environment that advocates for access to a full range of women's health services and the women/individuals  and families we serve; supports the unencumbered practice of midwifery by CNMs and CMs to the full extent of their education, training and experience; to increase consumer awareness, understanding, and use of midwifery and midwives; and to strengthen and support ACNM's  affiliates.

  • National Government Affairs Committee

    The Government Affairs Committee serves as a forum for policy
    coordination from the divisions and helps to implement ACNM's advocacy
    goals related to midwifery practice and women's health by carrying out
    strategies on a national level.  The Government Affairs Committee also
    coordinates the mobilization of grassroots efforts by ACNM's membership,
    ensuring that our direct political action is both enthusiastic and effective.

  • State Government Affairs Committee

    Support state affiliates in legislative work and advocacy.

  • Midwives Political Action Committee

    The Midwives-PAC is a political action committee formed by ACNM in 2000 for the purpose of soliciting voluntary contributions from ACNM members that can be distributed strategically as campaign contributions to federal legislators. Its mission is to raise the voice of midwifery in Congress by supporting federal legislators who have demonstrated an understanding, interest, and commitment to the views, goals, and initiatives of our membership organization.

  • Committee of Midwife Advocates for the Certified Midwife

    Support full and equitable national and state recognition of the CM, state licensure of CMs with unencumbered practice to the full extent of their education, training and experience and a diverse and inclusive ACNM membership.

  • Affiliate Development and Support Committee

    To support ACNM to strengthen and nurture State Affiliates. To directly provide ACNM state Affiliate leaders with the support and resources needed to create and manage dynamic and thriving Affiliates.

  • Consumer Engagement Committee

    To provide recommendations and expertise to the ACNM BOD, affiliate leadership and members related to increasing consumer engagement in midwifery.
