Welcome to the Business Committee. Here are some helpful facts and resources for members who want to know more about The Business of Midwifery.

What is the responsibility of the ACNM Business Section?

According to the Division of the Advancement of Midwifery (DAM), the Business Section’s:

Role: To provide clinical expertise and advice to the college related to business issues that impact midwifery

Function:

  • Maintain and update information materials in written format and on business section webpage addressing the business needs of CNMs/CMs in clinical practice.
  • Provide expertise and representation to the planning group for Midwifery Works! And business track for annual meeting
  • Provide expertise to the ACNM list serve on CNM/CM business issues, questions, and concerns.
  • Coordinate with MBN Caucus to provide a professional network and forum for members who have interests and/or needs related to the business aspects of clinical practice.
  • Monitor ongoing matters related to the CNM/CM reimbursement cycle; provide membership education on same.
  • Serve or identify individuals who can provide business expertise on selected business topics on behalf of the ACNM.
  • Support ACNM staff in responding to member inquiries about business matters
  • Follow the Business list-serve,
  • Review and revise "Getting Paid" handbook as needed

What is the difference between the ACNM Business Section and the Midwifery Business Network (MBN) Caucus?

The MBN Caucus developed out of the roots of the Services Director’s Network, founded in the mid-80’s which became the Midwifery Business Network in 2010. 2015 was the Inaugural year of the MBN Caucus. MBN Caucus Board Members are responsible for planning networking events at the ACNM Annual Meeting in the spring/summer and at Midwifery Work! each fall. Members of the MBN Board of Directors have a clearly defined bylaws document which can be found on the MBN Caucus website (soon to be published).
