Boston

Boston Midwives Welcome You to Beantown!
After 10 years the ACNM Annual Meeting is coming back to Boston (a.k.a. Beantown)! Those who were here in 1997 remember the great time we had. Boston is a world class city with many attractions to offer while you're here.

There is something for everyone! Some of Boston's interesting places include a world class art museum, a great science museum, a museum of African American history, and museums at Harvard and MIT. One of the most unique museums in the world is a collection of glass flower models made for botany students at Harvard in the 1890s. There is also a zoo, an aquarium, high rise views and wonderful architecture.

Visitors can also take in Boston's sites on an entertaining trolley/duck tour, harbor cruise or a leisurely ride on the famous swan boats in the Boston Public Gardens. If walking is more your style, stroll along the Charles River or discover our rich tapestry of history along the Freedom Trail. During your walk on the Trail you will see all the historic sites of downtown Boston and find the site of the Boston Tea Party. Of particular interest to midwives is the statue of Anne Hutchinson, arguably the country's first feminist, in front of the State House.

For a trip outside Boston, destinations could include the seaside city of Gloucester, famous for fishing history and the location for the movie Perfect Storm. When visiting Salem, MA, one can learn the stories of the witch trials, visit the Nathaniel Hawthorne museum, and see maritime history. Concord, MA offers the change to learn about patriotic and literary history. For quaint shopping and sightseeing, the areas of Cape Cod, MA and Providence and Newport, RI are worth the one to three hour ride.

For those interested in the night life, Boston has entertainment for every taste; from the Boston Pops concerts, jazz and contemporary music, to traditional pubs (like Cheers!) and clubs where you can dance the night away! For sports fans, you may want to plan to get tickets (ahead of time) for a game with the 2007 World Series champs, the Boston Red Sox, at the oldest major league ballpark, Fenway. The theater district also offers many current musicals and plays.

While here make sure you have a lobster, our great seafood, or maybe you prefer the Boston baked beans! We will be prepared to tell you all about our wonderful diverse array of ethnic cuisines. A stroll at Quincy Market, near historic Faneuil Hall will be tantalizing to your senses, offering culinary delights to meet anyone's taste buds!

Come and experience our warm, New England welcome, attend a spectacular conference, and have some fun with friends and family! We'll see you there!
