Senior Accounting Manager

Reporting to the Vice President of Finance, the Senior Accounting Manager is responsible for all aspects of the accounting function including budgeting, financial reporting, revenue recognition, accounts payable and receivable, general ledger account reconciliations and payroll. Financial analysis is an integral component of all processes.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Management:

· Manage all accounts, ledgers and reporting systems ensuring compliance with generally accepted accounting principles

· Maintain documented system of accounting policies and procedures

· Proactively identify process improvement opportunities and implement as directed

· Interface with internal and external stakeholders including program directors and independent auditors

Budgeting, reporting and analysis

· Assist Vice President of Finance with budgeting, reforecasting and variance reporting

· Prepare monthly financial statements for the organization, subsidiary and programs using Management Reporter

· Prepare annual consolidation with subsidiary

· Analyze financial results, liaise with project directors to understand budget variances and assess impact on organizational finances

Accounting and processing

· Manage/perform accounting functions related to accounts receivable, accounts payable, payroll, account reconciliations and maintenance of the general ledger

· Manage revenue and cash receipts, including online and credit card payments for membership and registrations as well as revenue recognition and reconciliation of bank accounts, accounts receivable and deferred revenue

· Manage accounts payable and payroll. This includes processing/reviewing invoices and expense reimbursements. Payroll responsibilities include review of timesheets, submission of data to payroll processing service, filing of payroll tax returns, monthly journal entries and reconciliations

· Manage the month-end close process by maintaining chart of accounts, preparing and reviewing journal entries and reconciling all general ledger accounts

· Assist the Vice President of Finance in preparing for the annual audit and the annual Form 990

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s Degree in accounting required; CPA highly preferred
  • Experience with major public accounting firm preferred
  • Minimum of ten years work experience, including several years with non-profit organizations
  • Working knowledge of 501(c)6 associations and 501(c)3 organizations as well as political action committees. Thorough understanding of accounting for not-for-profit entities, including accounting for grants and contracts and allocation of indirect costs
  • Highly knowledgeable of accounting for Federal grants and contracts in conformity with provisions of the Uniform Guidance
  • Strong analytical skills related to budgeting and variance reporting required
  • Highly skilled with Microsoft Dynamics SL, Management Reporter and Microsoft Office; additional experience with AMS and/or CRM highly desired
  • Knowledge of payroll processing platforms preferred
  • Highly motivated and customer-service oriented with a drive for excellence
  • Demonstrated ability to supervise professional accounting staff
  • Demonstrated ability to work closely and collaboratively in a team environment
