  • Third Party Comments:

The Accreditation Commission for Midwifery Education (ACME), is recognized by the U.S. Department of Education (under 'Health Care') as a programmatic accrediting agency for midwifery education programs since 1982. The U.S. Department of Education grants the following scope of recognition to ACME: "the accreditation and preaccreditation of basic certificate, basic graduate nurse-midwifery, direct entry midwifery, and pre-certification nurse-midwifery education programs, including those programs that offer distance education."

ACME is seeking to expand its scope to include the accreditation and preaccreditation of the midwifery practice doctorate for midwives who are national certified.

In accordance with ACME policies and procedures, the commission provides a comment period seeking written comment from our constituents and stakeholders on a proposed new set of criteria for practice doctoral programs in midwifery for students who are already nationally certified midwives. The new criteria are called:

Criteria for Programmatic Preaccreditation of the Midwifery Practice Doctorate for Midwives who are Nationally Certified with Instructions for Elaboration and Documentation

Criteria for Programmatic Accreditation of the Midwifery Practice Doctorate for Midwives who are Nationally Certified with Instructions for Elaboration and Documentation

Third party comments must be received in writing and in English. The comment period will be open from March 10, 2017 to April 30, 2017. To assist us in gathering your comments, please use the following link to a survey, https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/MPDoctorate.

We encourage you to forward this request to all parties you believe would be interested in providing comment including any midwifery faculty and midwifery students.
