Candidate Statement Related to Office:

I am seeking to serve the ACNM in the role of vice president for several reasons. Having recently completed 6 years on the Board as the Region III Representative for the Southeast, I have observed several outstanding role models in action, which have inspired and challenged me to seek this office. I believe the vice president first serves at the will of the president.  My role would be to help facilitate her agenda by being available to assist her in the daily operations of the College. ACNM has many key stakeholders and allies that we interact with.  In recent years I have witnessed our current vice president work with ACOG, US MERA, and the annual meeting planning committee to ensure smooth, efficient operation.  She will be a hard act to follow. Her firm, steadfast representation of our members and ACNM in “crucial conversations” with our obstetrical and midwife colleagues has been admirable.  I am more intimidated, though, at the thought of having to “emcee” our awards banquet.  I don’t know if I could ever pull this off with her panache.

As Region Representative, I have had the honor and privilege of serving the CNM community in the Southeast.  There continues to be many barriers that frustrate and limit our profession’s capacity to serve the women and families in this region.  My role was to support each affiliate’s leaders and represent the will of the members to the Board.  In addition, I have served as liaison to several committees: Ethics, MOCC and Finance & Audit and on 4 task forces, including D&I and Name Change Implications, providing me the privilege of working with and being inspired by many of our volunteer leaders.

I feel I have a firm understanding of the key issues and complexities of our Midwifery profession and the College. I humbly offer myself as a candidate for Vice President.
