Candidate Statement Related to Office:
I have been a member of ACNM since 1992.  I have devoted my professional career to serving women and families through full scope midwifery clinical practice, nurse-midwifery education, and by being an active ACNM member.  I have practiced as a CNM in all birth settings, both in and out of the hospital in several practices (Detroit, Michigan; Tucson, Arizona; Chicago, Illinois; Ann Arbor, Michigan; and now, full circle back to Detroit, Michigan).  I currently practice with WSUPG CNM Service in Detroit, Michigan (per diem CNM) and have enjoyed being a clinical preceptor my entire midwifery career.  Since 2008 I have been a nurse-midwifery educator.  I am very proud to be on faculty at Frontier Nursing University!  Previously, I was on faculty and the associate director of the Nurse-Midwifery Education Program at the University of Michigan.  My scholarship expertise is integrative health care, complementary therapies, stress reduction and relaxation strategies to support women and families.

ACNM has set priorities and goals within the Strategic Plan. There are varied opportunities along with many ongoing challenges.  We need to expand our efforts to convey an accurate positive image of midwives, continue and expand our participation in interdisciplinary initiatives to improve maternity care, address issues surrounding equity and autonomy, and increase our midwifery workforce.  I would strive to be an effective bridge to our ACNM divisions, committees, other volunteer groups, along with outside organizations.  It is essential to have someone dedicated to timely, effective two-way communication and information flow between the national office and our Region IV state affiliate members.  As ACNM enters a new era, I would appreciate the opportunity to continue to contribute.  I feel my background, experiences, education, and perseverance would be a positive element, and I would feel honored to dedicate time to our professional organization through continuing to serve as Region IV Representative.
